Eve.

I'm sitting here with two new friends, Sunny and Charles. Two dogs that needed a home. They came as a duo. Keeping it short, they are two very fun, adorable and loving dogs. Time will tell if they get on with Nude. I'm trying to remember what were some highlights of the year. I know it's not New Years eve but It just came across my my mind. Some Lost Lake shows have been fun. One notably was the Spirits with Spirits gig at the Aztec Hotel. It was just so fun to be apart of the ghost hunters scene. Swell people.
I think it was this year, maybe not. Abe Vigoda at Echo Curio was fucking so much fun. I don't know if the kids who got bounced by Ben feel the same way ;)Their new album is great! It's my #2 album of the year.

Album of the year for me was The National's High Violet. Going through personal shit always needs a soundtrack. This was mine.
And then the return of the 90's bands. Pavement at the Fox and Hollywood Bowl. I remember thinking they sounded stronger than any of the times seeing them back when they were touring. As Rolling Stone put it "Lots of drunk dads screaming for Gold Soundz" Well, I guess.
GBV was of course fun. Those men will never loose their mammoth love for rock and beer. Tracing had a nice debut a couple of months ago. It's good to not care and over think about music. Fun is the reward. Next post coming soon.

Managed to changed my password and get in here again. OK quick overview,music has been really taken over my life more so than before. That's the way I like it. Been playing a lot with Lost Lake,Spero and Tracing. Got a new guitar. A lawsuit 335 copy. Gorgeous sounding and easy on the eyes. Pic down below. So I have two weeks off coming up and I'm more excited about getting the holidays over and getting to work on all music. If Blogger doesn't fuck my password up again, stay tuned for more posts. Log In Trouble!!

I've been having some password problems with the site. So every time I have to make a new password this little tab comes up and it says "change or don't change existing password". I'll choose change thinking its going to remember my new PW and it doesn't!
So this time I didn't choose anything and I'm hoping it keeps me logged in. If any of you have some advice on this I'll take it! That's all I got at the moment. If I'm logged in still tomorrow I'll post some new gear and gig goings on. Peace Out!

New post!!

Been some time since my last post. Tell you the truth I just forgot my password and username. And me being a lazy bastard, I just couldn't be bothered with it! But I'm inspired I suppose. Aside from family health problems(me included)and other things that has occurred my music has not suffered. Keeping busy and so on. So with that update we move right along. Yesterday I finally went to check out this cemetery by my work. Very odd one too, because it doesn't belong to anyone other than the people buried there. Here is the only info I found about it. Cemetery notes and/or description:
Founded in 1896 by a colony of German Baptists known as “Dunkers” (due to their method of baptism). In 1972, the Dunkers moved to Modesto. At one point the Bible Missionary Church owned and maintained the cemetery, but as of 2005, the church had been torn down and ownership of the cemetery is unclear. As of October 2009, the California Cemetery & Funeral Bureau has no record of a Certificate of Authority (Cemetery) on their database.

Cue spooky Theremin music. I remember the church that was in front of it. I'd always see it on our way to Kmart to jump on that Blue Light Special. Now for some pics!

I'm a cloud................

Just took Winston for a walk. The evening is really cool and the skyline lights look like they are amplified through a reverb tank. Today went without flaws. Went to the library with some students of mine. But the start of the day is not without it's trials. None the less, armed with coffee and less than a half a tank of gas I make it to work and I knock the shit out of the work day. I will also add another song to the "TWENTY YEAR LIST" list. Don't judge, you know its over played....... Great footage though :P

The 09/10 school year update.

Yes last post was in June. A lot has occurred. some things worth mentioning, most not. On the band front Black Kites met it's demise this Summer. It ended in a sad and hopeful manner. All luck goes out to all involved. I was playing with friends for a B-day party back in early August. It was fun,intense and drenched in booze the whole night. So now I've been recording music for a band that is not yet off the ground. The name Lost Lake caught my eye after a very nice gent from a gear forum I frequent posted it in a title of a thread he started. Well after a very fast vacation and a couple of practices its been proven that there is some potential. Again this is just to update the blog. It's going to be a goal of mine to keep it up more than I have. So to tide you over till the next post here's a link!

Help out Pehrspace!

It looks like Pehrspace falls in the "Too good to be true" category. Noise complaints from the neighborhood and visits from the cops have forced the good people of the venue to start looking at other place to put on shows. Here is the official word from Pehrspace....

Hi Everyone,

pehrspace has been receiving noise complaints from neighbors these past few weeks and Officer Ford (via Eric Garcetti's office) visited us last Friday to give us a very polite, but stern, warning about controlling our sound levels for our shows. With the addition of L'Keg to the neighborhood (we welcome the company!), our neighbors are experiencing a new wave of sound intrusion into their homes and extra people in the streets so their patience is probably wearing as thin as it did when we first opened three years ago.

pehrspace experienced our first police shutdown this past weekend (sorry Officer Ford) and, a few weeks back, one of our promoters received a complaint directly from a neighbor during one of our weekday shows. As a result, we will be relocating all of our weekday shows to other spaces with the same DIY mindset and outside promoters will no longer be able to host events at the space unless one of us directly associated with pehrspace is present that particular night. This will take effect immediately and last until our neighborhood status is in good standing once again. Sean Carnage has received several offers to relocate his Monday night show. He will be at Women (1852 Crenshaw Blvd.) tonight.

We will continue to host shows and events on Fridays and Saturdays with heightened awareness for noise levels in the parking lot and within the space. Recently, both L'Keg and pehrspace have been working with Eric Garcetti's office to obtain permits for future (and sorta exciting) big events so we are asking our contacts at the office how to ameliorate our neighbors' view of the spaces. Just ONE more noise complaint can shut us down.

Officer Ford has noted and appreciated our efforts to soundproof pehrspace and it works really well, but absolute soundproofing isn't effective when our doors are left open or if the music is unusually loud during a performance. We have also been pretty laidback about parking lot/outside noise and this may have added to our neighbors' annoyance.

Please, if you or your friends attend any shows at both venues, be aware of your noise levels when walking through the neighborhood and when you're outside of our spaces. It's simple, respect our neighbors. If you notice any wild behavior, let us know and we'll take care of the situation. We really enjoy the spirit of our events and the community that we've built together throughout the years--it would be a shame to have to stop because of those few who lack awareness and respect for others.

20 YEAR LIST CONTINUES.....

So driving down to San Diego this past Saturday D and I were listening to 93.9. It's a station that plays nothing but 80's and late 70's hits. As we past the giant boobs parked at San Onofre
we are subjected to the tired, hopeless whines of OMD's "If you leave" song from Pretty In Pink. Every time I hear this song It just reminds me that Hugh's fucked up what could have been one of the best nerd gets hottie endings ever! Blane was such a shit eater and Andie fell for it! OK,OK I'm over it....

Another song that threw itself on the 20 year list for me was "Brass in Pocket" by my much loved Pretenders.
Great song yes but It's one of the reasons why the 20 YEAR LIST was started. I've heard it just one too many times. I was telling D that around 1993 I heard a version of it done by Suede on Rodney's show. If you think the original is sexy you have to hear Brett croon and slither those lyrics over the slowed down haunting rhythm. I heard it only that one time. I've been told it was released on a comp called Rubytracks or something like that. It's out of print of course but the version is out there in interwebz space. Hunt it down!

So now I'm selling this beast here.


Its a Fender Dual Showman Reverb. This is a 1968 first year model with aluminum "drip" edge. When I got it I don't think the chassis was ever taken out. This amp looked like it was gigged for a while then put away never to see a stage in years. I bought it off EBay and luckily the seller was relatively close proximity so I went to go pick it up with my good friend Mike. It was then taken to my friends at Future Music and was serviced by the resident tech. It was used in the studio for the recording of two Black Kites tracks. The sound of this head is pure Fender clean tone. The reverb on this one is sooooo nice! Damp cave sounds emmit when you dial in the reverb at 5. Scary and beautiful all at once.I don't need two amps and Im also trying to find another drum kit. Well, I found one but I need the money for it. So if you know anyone who needs an amp let them know. I'd like to do a local pick up thing too because I do not want to ship this thing. It's a pain in the ass >:(

It's been a while since I posted. I've been kinda busy with the every day blah. Anyhoo I was telling a friend about an old Porky Pig cartoon called "The Last Dodo". It's one of the funniest cartoons I remember from my childhood. It gave me a reason to post something short,sweet and hilarious!

So I'm upset about Mickey Rourke not getting an award. Whatever, I loved him and Marrissa Tome In The Wrestler. Hope some of you went to go see Charles play with The French Semester at T's. What else..... not much. Here comes Monday I guess.

SO LONG INDIE 103.1

Today I got word that Indie has pulled the plug on terrestrial broadcast. It's pretty sad to me because my morning listening was Joe Escalante. His brand of "morning zoo" was nothing of that. Wino Wednesday, the sports report with Timothy Olyphant. Cryptic weather reports from David Lynch. Lazy but funny traffic with Jose Galvan and cool voice news from Liz Warner. Another blow from this loss was local music show Check 1-2. A lot of bands from LA got a ton of support from Mr. Shovel. Rollins show was so great too. I'm going to miss it in the car. But as I type this, I'm streaming the station. It was weird hearing on my way home this almost doomsday like message loop telling listeners about the news. I'll miss it.

But thank God for KXLU. I was listening to whats growing to be my favorite show "Part time punks". Today the dj Michael Stock was paying tribute to uber-influential label Factory Records. Right before my run walk/run at Evergreen Cemetery, he read one of the last ever written letters by Ian Curtis. While he was reading it, it kinda seemed like he was choked up by the content. The fact that it was the last ever communication from this very talented young man, to who I think was his lady on the side. Whatever he was feeling, you don't hear radio like this just anywhere. After he read the letter he played a demo of Joy Division doing one of my all time favorite songs "Ceremony". I turned off the radio and went for a walk around a very apt place of scenery. Well when I got back in the car I heard him say that this Sunday night Part Time Punks will have a Factory Records night at the Echo. It's my B-day weekend and I have Monday off so I think I will get all moody and reflective and go listen to some great music and have my share of drinks. Hope to see you there!

BEST AND WORST PARTS OF 08!

2008 was a crazy year for me.HOME. I had another wonderful year living in(my opinion)one of the coolest neighborhoods around. It got even better, when we got rid of the most horrible fucking renters in history (Back House)! I don't have to wake up to a giant fucking SUV blaring horrible KLOVE Radio Amore in my drive way, or seeing babies wearing diapers running around chasing my outside cats, or Corona bottle caps all over the front of their porch. They are gone, and I'm over it!: WORST.


MOSPEADA.I was going over the gigs we did on Myspace the other day. We played A LOT! Some months had like 3 shows booked. We recorded an e.p. that pretty much fell on deaf ears. The people who did get though had kind words to say and I'm glad you enjoyed it. We went to San Diego, Modesto(OH GOD)and Oxnard. We had a song on a very cool comp with some others friends of ours on Itunes. But what's more important, is the friends we made while playing in the LA area. All the gigs were fun but I'd have to say the MOSPEADA practices were my favorite. The freedom of just trying any musical idea. The drink/smoke breaks which involved so many laughs and the occasional lighting a fart on fire from someones butt just holds a special place in my heart. We're broken up as people know but memories, you know how they work:BEST/WORST.



MUSIC. I don't have too many favorite bands for '08. I found myself listening to friends bands more than major/indie bands out there. I loved The Miles Approach ep. Their live shows were just as great! The trio work so well together and the vocals have that great boy/girl counter action going on. Awesome! The Hectors ep was great too. Their guitar tones are like neon icicles moving around at 100 miles an hour. Lead singer Corrine's vocals wrap around the sound and kicks it right in the ass. Wonderful band!
Noise/Gaze favorite's Guppies blew me away EVERY TIME live! The gentle yet ferocious sides of the band get me right here(points to heart). I was lucky enough this year to watch them lull the late night airwaves of KXLU. Also play host to a practice here at my own home. A great and drunk marathon of a day! The Health Club continued to burn every stage they played on and started to expand on their minimalist/maximilist take on punk. As far as the big bands go Black Mountain and Animal Collectives albums were top for me. I had more drunk nights with Strawberry Jam on my Ipod, but Black Mountain's In the future turned me on to some beautiful heavy riffs and angel/sultry vocals from Amber Webber. I know I'm missing stuff but anyone who has partied with me during this year knows what I love to put on when I get wasted :P BEST.








ME. When MOSPEADA ended I was in a funk and didn't really know what was next. But as things turn out in life, I was then asked to join Black Kites. It was a welcome invitation because I've been a fan of their's for quite some time. I was able to take a break from thinking about and trying to push my own vehicle. The first month and a half was not easy. A gig in Modesto led to my prized Jaguar and Twin Reverb being stolen out of our car. It was a brutal feeling to take on. But my new band mates helped me get back to where I was before. We played some more shows and just recently recorded two songs that will be on our debut album. Hope is all I can have:BEST.

PETS. Well as I posted before on here, I had a hard time with a rescue in the summer and I still think about her often. But just last month I was blessed with another character. I found him at my work in Whittier. If I wasn't going to take him they were going to call the pound. I had to take him. It's been a month now with him and he is one of the coolest dogs I've had the pleasure of knowing. He's so loving. He kinda reminds me, well, of me. LOL!:BEST.



RECORDING. For the past two and a half months I've been recording with my good friend Alex. The sessions have been really liberating in a sense that there is no pressure, rush or expectations. He's written music that is a weird cross between surf,psychedelic and noise rock. We've been collaborating on sounds and ideas and the results fucking rule. We asked our friend Max to lay down some Acetone organ on the tracks. His attack at the music was fresh which added even more to the fun:BEST.





So next year in a matter of hours, who knows what's gonna happen. I'm hoping for the best.

BLACK AND WHITE KITES. SPACELAND!!!!

I have been really lazy with the new post's but that's how It goes. I'm posting pics of the night we played Spaceland.As we are setting up the sound guy looked very fammiliar.I asked him if he was in a band called Friends in the mountains. He says yes so that's our good omen for the show. He used to work at a record store in Whittier and we had mutual good friends. Very nice guy. He did a great job with the bands stage mix and for once Evy was not screaming and keys were not buried under mounds of fuzz,bass and perccusion. The turn out was great too. We had a lot of people show up. For being the opener we had a lot of bodies in there. The set went fast but a good feeling was shared on stage and smiles were finally cracked! It was fun and you should have been there.

Tuesday is practice night....

And I'm feeling pretty crappy. I've got a sore throat that I'm trying to get rid of before the show at Spaceland. Black Kites will be playing with Shiloe, The Human Value and War Tapes. It should be a great time. I also brought home a dog. It was wandering around the continuation school section of the school where I work. Let's see if this one doesn't get picked up by it's cholo owners from Hacienda Heights.

TWENTY YEAR LIST!!! PART TWO....

I haven't done a list since I think my first post in this blog. So let me recap. The 20 YEAR list is a list where you put songs you could go for 20 years not hearing. Maybe because you hate it, or it just gets picked way to much in your local dive bar. I think you get it so lets start this mofo.

The Cure- Boys don't cry.
Whether its played at a cheesy 80's/Brit Pop club. Or on the noon time retro mix on Power or on other like minded stations this song always gets the rotation. I don't have anything negative to say about it. It's just you know, Boys don't cry is being played again!


Eric Clapton- Layla
Let me just say first that I think EC is lame therefore I'm putting this song that kicked off so many classic rock station commercials. That opening lick just really gets under my skin. I just picture him doing those "I cant believe I'm still getting a blow job at my age" spewge face string bends. Annoying.


Rolling Stones- Satisfaction
Yes it was one of the first songs that used the Maestro fuzz box. Yes it's the Stones but this song could really disappear and I wouldn't even notice. Again another song with an opening riff that's just played out and old. Devo fucking did it right.



Joy Division- Love will tear us apart
Yeah, I said it. But really this song is up there with Boys don't cry. But you know it was their hit in a way. It reminds me of the time in my junior year we had a band practice and we did this song and I wish there was a tape recorder or video going because it would document the only time Fernando(Mospeada,Le Pepe's)took the role as lead singer and crooned those sad, sad lyrics.


That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure most will disagree but you know whatever...
