GBV ON THE JOHN STEWART SHOW

Before John Stewart became the clown prince of political humor he tried his hand at late night talk show hosting. It was on channel 13. He had some great bands on there, this was in 95. I remember taping the episode. Maybe at my parents or my apartment or at my graveyard gig taking care of an autistic giant. Anyway, here are two performances by one of the greatest bands that have ever hauled a cooler full of beers on stage. Try and fight the tears, Guided by Voices.....

BUTTERGLORY!!!

This band was from Northern California, Vasalia to be exact. They put out some great music. The album that I picked up 14 years ago was"Crumble".It has been such a constant jumble of tunes in my head since then. I was listening to it today and the songs are these lo-fi slices of greatness. Try to download it, or buy it or whatever the fuck you do and bask in the simple beauty! You can sample some of thier songs here..... http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/1050003/a/Crumble.htm Until next melt down!!

CLASSIC SMITHS....

Found these today. Im glad I can also find footage with the great Craig Gannon. I still say, if he would have continued with Craig,Mike and Andy they would have still been great. Even without Marr! The vid for Sister I'm A Poet is rad. That gold top Gibson he plays has so much tone. Of course the vintage silverface Twin and Roland JC-120 doest't hurt either. But whatever, that was a long time ago....

RECENT PICS AND A SET LIST!

Thanks to forum member Ben Glass over at Haunting Mids. He took these great pics of MBV at recent show. Im going to see them in October. Thanks to a VERY thoughtful girlfriend :) Here are the pics.

Interesting choice of pedals too??? Whats up with that Snarling Spore or whatever it's called. But he brings it back with an unidentified Pete Cornish pedal. He also has one of the Roger Mayer fuzz pedals and another one im not to sure about. After all these years im finally going to see them live. I did see Kevin play with Primal Scream a long time ago. October will be heavy.

THE MILES APPROACH AT ECHO CURIO

I went to Echo Curio the other night to see The Miles Approach. This was the second time for me and they played a really great set. The harmonies between him and drummer vivian are ace and Louie's recently modded jag sounded very heavy through that also very heavy amp he plays out of. Drew their bass player is like a circling cat waiting to get fed! Wich at the end of his meal pushes his Ampeg amp and Micron synth on to the ground!Scary and rad at the same time. They have a show coming up July 5 at The Scene with The Health Club, Exit Music and Mospeada. Come out and check out the music. And now some pics

SOME SHIT I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ALREADY....

To me anyway right? Well I've always read about Throbbing Gristle and The Hafler Trio but found it hard to find stuff or didnt bother to(to be honest). Tonight though I wanted to seek it out. Here are some clips of some very cool things I've read about and now have heard. The Sunburned Hand Of The Man stuff is very close to my heart but I just wanted to throw it in there.
